Yes, registration is compulsory for all pilgrims, whether traveling by trek or helicopter. Without registration and a valid Yatra Permit, you cannot join the yatra.

You can register offline at authorized bank branches like (Punjab National Bank, J&K Bank, ICICI Bank and YES Bank) or online mode through the shrine board official (SASB) website/portal.

You will need for registration:

  • Duly filled application form.
  • A valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID, etc.)
  • Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC) from an shrine board authorized doctor
  • Recent passport-size photographs

Due to the high-altitude terrain and low oxygen levels, a medical certificate ensures you are physically fit and capable of completing the pilgrimage safely.

Children below 13 years, elderly above 70 years, pregnant women beyond 6 weeks, and people with serious health conditions like heart problems or asthma are not allowed.

The two main trekking routes are:

  • Pahalgam Route (Traditional Route): 36 km distance, longer but scenic route
  • Baltal Route (Steeper Route) – 14 km distance, shorter but steeper

    Helicopter services are available from both routes.

Amarnath yatra Helicopter services from Baltal and Pahalgam to Panchtarni helipad reduce trekking distance significantly. After helicopter journey, all pilgrims must trek to 06km distance from panchtarni to holy cave.

  • By Pahalgam Route: 3–5 days (depending on your pace)
  • By Baltal Route: 1–2 days
  • By Helicopter: Can be completed in a single day if returning the same day.
